I like your comment, Namelus.
“We do have some cash reserves for land/property buying it’s not yet time in our opinion to buy as the great calamity has not hit yet.”
Sifting through data, and reading the tea leaves :), we have decided it IS the great calamity and are relocating asap, as I noted in another thread. With a little luck, you’ll be somewhat of a neighbor.

I will not criticize the relief money for various reasons – mostly because it’s our tax money and way more billions are being given to corporations – but I will respectfully comment that Im surprised at so much cognitive dissonance on such a reputable forum regarding the freight train bearing down on us, friends.

I so appreciate your replies and please excuse my inability to respond/thank you until now.
Since my husband and I are semi qualified peppers (reading/research/collecting books/following protocol) for many years, we’re comfortable with identifying general SW area outside of Asheville. I identified Asheville more as a map pin, but will be more SW area. It is also reputed (hopefully still so) as an area of seasoned preppers. We are concerned to be in an general area of community of like minded, even if not next door, but close enough.
I say we’re semi qualified because we’ve lived a small homestead life, purposefully somewhat off grid by using fireplace to heat home – which entailed firewood and chopping! – a garden that yielded enough to eat, fruit trees and bushes, proximity to 2 lakes, etc. We felt it was preparation for this….not knowing when “this” would happen. Then 2 years ago we answered the call of our children to participate in gchild life since we were in Canada and they are in US. We sold and moved here (SoCal desert ugh) and are ‘halfway prepped’, started over w prepping. But as a family we realize this isn’t the best place to be. Heck if we lose elec and water we’re in deep doo doo.
Right now I’m worried about how to quickly do this too. I’m convinced that within 6 months things will be very dire and moving may not be possible.
Thank you for listening, friends.

Everything you noted about Next Door is what I noticed when I joined late February. I’d never heard of it before, then someone recommended it because we noticed a sudden appearance of cats around our home. I’m experienced with rescues and wanted to ensure i didn’t snatch up someones pet, and we live in a very nice neighborhood, so strays are unusual.
As I became familiar with Next Door, I saw the good – neighbors recommending contractors, lost pets, BOLO’s etc, but late Feb is when everything started to explode with SARS 2. Within a week, many many ‘Karens’ were ratting out a litany of people who THEY thought were not behaving properly. It became a thing here for the Karens to call the CDC, County Health department and local police, in that order. They all self congratulated, and the normal people who tried to have a discussion about it were banned.
I quit Next Door after 10 days due to the brown shirt attitude of a minority. It’s a revolting mindset.

Amen to that CB. I said last night to spouse that the surreal nature of what we’re living through is not necessarily the lockdown and ripple effect, but how most people STILL think we’re all going back to pre lockdown days. You and I and most others of our mindset knew immediately that this is an event that will permanently change every aspect of the fake life “they” gave us.
Update/long story short, a move will be happening, but not as quickly as I’d like. So I’m redirecting efforts to finish prepping in place until we do. Expending $ on infrastructure that can move with us.
Peace to you all, friends.

LOL right? For me, it was my grandmother – she home cooked everything and lived through the depression and WW2, so she was astounded that when her grandchildren would come to visit, we’d have the temerity to turn up our nose at certain foods. We got “the lecture”, but when I got older and reflected on it, I understood much better.
Even more so, now!

Crow Bar’s point is mine too – you’re WAY ahead of the game because you’ve had previous experience which = proper mental orientation. I believe the biggest obstacle is one’s mental preparation, that ability to remain objective and operate “Left of Bang”. (great book, btw).
I look forward to your sharing your rebuilding efforts – it can assist others, like me, who are rebuilding also.
