About three years ago MS13 gang members murdered and then mutilated a young man on an isolated rural road not far from me. Several months later (April) while out back at my tractor shed I heard a vehicle drive in on land behind me owned by a hunt club. I heard talking, but it was at a distance and I couldn’t hear the words spoken, so it was more than one person. I thought they were hunt club members scouting in advance of Spring gobbler season. Several days later it dawned on me that they have left the vehicle – a Jeep Cherokee – behind, and it was still parked up in the woods. A week later I called the Sheriff’s Dept. since things just weren’t adding up. Three deputies came out and walked up into the woods to examine the Jeep. They came back and said it was locked, and that the tags had been removed. Using the VIN they located the registered owner who told them he has sold the vehicle to a “Hispanic guy”. Can you believe that they weren’t interested enough to pursue it any further! They told me it was on private property and there was nothing else they could do unless the property owner wanted it towed. I called the State Police. The SP had investigated the MS13 case. THEY weren’t even interested! That Jeep sat there until mid-September when one evening right after dark another vehicle drove in and someone got into the Jeep and the two vehicles drove out together. This incident prompted me to install a home security system as well as intrusion alarms outside. I am never outside unarmed, and I repeatedly tell my wife to be the same, especially when home alone. Honestly, I always felt danger would come down the driveway, not from the thickly wooded hundreds of acres behind me that only had rutted old logging roads.
