@James,
Yeah, from when I was about 12-13 years old, my parents made it clear, if you are not going to college, then the day after high school graduation, I was expected to move out and make my own way through life.
Now, if there was something truly bad happened, loss of a job, physical accident, fire, that kind of thing, I could move back in temporarily.
But, if possible, I would be expected to help around the house (chores, cook dinner, etc.) or get a PT job to pay for some things or save for my next whatever.
