Our biggest threats are power outages, with a major chemical spill being a secondary concern.
Will we have electricity- So far, our electricity has been able to handle Mother Nature. But I’ve lived in an area where one ice storm wipes out 1,000+ electric poles overnight.
Will we have running water- Yes, but only when our water pump is plugged into the generator. We’re researching adding a hand pump to our well.
Will we be able to purchase food or supplies- Yes, but it would be a drive that we might not want to make in bad weather. Right now we’re at about a week of supplies and working our way to a month. We’re new to all of this.
Will we have to evacuate- For a storm, no. For a major chemical spill- We hope not, but maybe. We have an area we can go to spring/summer/fall. Winter is more problematic, since we’d be taking horses, cats, and a dog with us.
Will anyone be more effected than others- Don’t think so.
