Ugh, I remember why I don’t like movies. Always tech difficulties with our old devices and not-new DVDs. At least 4 restarts to keep the thing going. 🙁
And….I DEFINITELY don’t like the tension of action/disaster movies. It feels VERRRRRY horrible to my disturbed nervous system. { sigh } OTOH {OnTheOtherHand}, ….TENSION is exactly what any crisis or StuffHitsFan is going to be. With aging, there really isn’t any “thrill” with tension….it’s an ENERGY-BLEED! And a serious one!
In the past couple decades, I’ve tried to cultivate a calm and accepting attitude towards events that go off the rails…..with very mixed results. If it’s a situation like A) No Electric…very calm. BTDT that it’s familiar. B) If it’s a medical emergency that looks immediately serious…I could go either way. I’ve done 1st Aid since my teens. Usually calm but some situations would not be easy to be calm within. C ) If we need to EVAC in front of oncoming fire….I can do the EVAC efficiently but I’ll be bleeding energy badly because while it’s familiar, it’s so very seriously dangerous. D) Full blown StuffHitsFan? Ugh!
After watching “Volcano” I was super-hyped. Annoying that I fall into a movie…NOT real…and still get that energy-bleeding reaction. So I read Anne of Green Gables to calm down…so I could go to sleep!!! That’s my antidote to tension. I fall as easily into a calm story as an anxiety-producing one. Also works for anxiety in real life.
In light of this realization, I’m glad my Kindle has plenty of both kinds. Definitely have both in paper books too. If I need CALM during a real crisis, and have the safety/time to read simple stories….might be seriously helpful for stopping energy drain.
Volcano has many holes-in-reality….but it was fine. I think the horror for me….I kept thinking: WHY are all these people still so close to this disaster? Get them outta there! WHY are all you people standing around thinking about your homes? Get you and your loved ones outta there! Come back when/if it’s safe!
OldMtWoman ….disaster action movies..ick. But one can always learn something!!
