My granddaughter lives in CA because it is where her job took her. Before she got married, she was renting an apartment for just over 2000 a month. that was for a two bedroom that she had to have a roommate to help with the rent. It is not cheap to live in CA. The cost of apartments and housing is crazy expensive.
