I have grown grain without any mechanical machines.
I used the hogs to root up the ground, spread the grain just before a rain.
Depending on what kind of wheat it is (spring or winter), used a scythe to cut, bagged it, carried it home, let it dry. Using a clean sheet, beat it. Poured the wheat seed, chaff into a 5 gal bucket. Then using a box fan or on just a windy day, pour the grain into another bucket. The wind breeze takes the chaff away and leaves you just the grain.
