You want to learn the lessons long range shooting has to teach?  Get yourself a set of 1/4 size targets and an accurate .22 Long Rifle bolt action scoped the same way you scope your long range rifle.  The rimfire will have about half the velocity of your bigger gun, at best, and the bullet shape will give you about double the drop of the bigger slug.

For zero, you can set up your target at 25 yards, to simulate 100 yard zero of the centerfire, or 50, to simulate a 200 yard zero.  Learn hold on your scope reticle, and have somebody else place targets for you so you don’t know the ranges.  This is one of those processes where a shooting buddy can give you fits.  And it’s only fair to return the favor….
