I bought my wife a small backpack at REI, suitable for day hikes. I have a small black ballistic nylon TimBuk2 bicycle messenger bag. We keep both in the car with water, food bars, life straw, first aid, bug spray, sun block, toothbrush/paste, flashlights, rain gear, leatherman tool and an Ontario fixed blade knife, paracord, gloves, etc. They are there in case we need something when out hiking, or to use as our Get Home Bags. Wearing them makes us look like hikers, or tourists in an urban environment.
I conceal carry a Glock 17 in a Bianchi holster on my belt, covering it with a lightweight jacket. I dont like the small frame “conceal carry” firearms. I lived in CA with magazines restricted to 10 rounds. I am not going to restrict myself to anything less than 17 now that I am out of CA.
At home we are well prepped and plan to bug in for any situation. If that goes south, car is a no go, and we must bug out, I have a Mystery Ranch T100 pack. Basically it is the new version of the back in the day Dana Designs Astral Plane backpack.
