Recently, I took a class with the Seattle Amazon engineering group working on fulfillment/warehouse automation. They were pressing forward with some pretty interesting work, including using drones for deliveries. Now, if they could find a way to keep packages from being stolen off people’s porches, that would be a revelation! Amazon isn’t the only one pursuing automation– McDonalds self-help kiosks, self-checkout lanes at the grocery store, shop ahead and pickup groceries could easily be done by a robot. Lots of mechanical, electrical, and programming engineering/technician opportunities to build/repair those robots!
