I’m still working on my preps.  I’m upgrading my medicine box and adding some over the counter meds to it.  Things that might be needed if we have an emergency where we might not get out for a while, today I bought tylenol, advil, anti-diarrhea meds, nausea meds, anti-acid and vapor rub to add to the med box.  The new one is easy to carry and has slide out boxes for some items.  I wish the dividers were a bit more user friendly, but it works.  While I was out, I picked up a couple jars of the spaghetti sauce my husband likes and bought two.  With those two, a can of pureed tomato sauce, a pound of ground beef and spices, that will make enough sauce for 6 meals for the two of us.

I don’t remember if I posted yesterday but I spend some time organizing my recipes and pulling out the ones that can be used for food storage.

Hubby had started building shelves in my food storage area when he fell off the roof 2 weeks ago and broke his collarbone.  This is going to slow down things until that heals and he can start using both arms again.  That’s OK, I have boxes I can put things in until he is healthy again.

Someone was talking about why they prep, and I thought I’d share our reasons.  Our biggest fear is an economic situation where we cannot afford to meet all our expenses.  I’m on disability and my husband wants to retire in the next 12 to 18 months.  In the past I used to make freezer meals to make life easier on the days when I had to work late or my medical conditions made it difficult to cook meals for our family.   This has saved us from economic trouble during two job losses and an injury that had me in the hospital for almost 3 months and even two years later, I’m still healing and learning to adapt to my new normal.

I want to expand from just freezer meals to include canned goods, dehydrated items and freeze dried items.  I became a consultant (I’m not active and not really looking to be active) so I could get a discount and the ability to buy early during sales.   My goal is to have two years of food in storage before my husband retires.

The other situations I am prepping for are natural disasters common to my location; tornadoes and blizzards.
