Yesterday was a very busy day. The day and today are mostly about storage planning.
Yesterday, I met with my contractor about my laundry/storage room in my walk out basement. I am in the process of putting the finishing touches on the house I had built in Up State NY. I am done with everything main house wise except for the laundry and utiility room. Next summer is the garage. I have had the building done in phases as I have watched too many people go way over their budgets. Thankfully, I am still on budget.
After organizing most of my preps and storage items, I knew what kind of shelving etc, I wanted. We also discussed the garage I want built next summer.
Thinking about why and what I am prepping for has really helped me focus on my storage needs. I have various reasons. I view it as a form of insurance (a financial depression, pandemic etc are all very likely events). Also, living in this rural area with the storms, power outages; some form of prepping is a way of life. My contractor had great ideas about shelving and storage as “almost all full-timers have a storage room with extra food and supplies”. You can’t just drive a couple minutes to the grocery (20 minutes) and hardware (Lowe’s is 50 minutes). For me, prepping is a necessary peace of mind activity, not a seige mentality.
I love reading the posts as we are all in different stages of prep and age. I have gotten so many ideas from the posts. I have added prioritized a dehydrator to my wish list. As some mentioned finding one at the thrift store, I will start looking. Someone mentioned Dave Ramesy. I love his way of thinking. I have gifted his books to many friends.
