I am not surprised and do not fault the Chinese government for cracking down on adherents of both Christianity and Islam. These are alien religions from other parts of the world and their introduction into China weakens Chinese culture and social cohesion. Chinese culture is bound up in Confucianism, Daoism, Han Buddhism, ancestor worship, and folk religions. Christianity and Islam are cultural threats and alienate their followers from their own Han Chinese culture and society. Unlike Western Europe and America, the Chinese recognize Islam’s destabilizing and destructive influence on Han Chinese culture and are fighting back. In my opinion the Chinese should not apologize for their actions with regards to Christianity and Islam. If you want to destroy a culture, just send in the missionaries.
