Tried to post on November 14, but Internet went out because of ice storm. Spent most of the time in coffee shop or doctor’s waiting room trying to get daughter taken care of (cancer). So discussed diversification of income with husband so it’s not all via the Internet. Made plans for diversification both on and off the Internet for both money and barter. Took one concrete baby step in that direction by sending an inquiry to a potential direct client.
Still dealing with ice storm and Internet outage this morning, but found that hot spot on cell phone is a great backup, so we’re in business again! I use Republic Wireless (which I know isn’t available everywhere, especially further out in rural areas – for my husband’s sister who lives in the “boonies”, nothing but Verizon works, and her bill is over $300 per month!), and the extra gigs only cost $5 per gig. I would urge people to look at cell phone plans very carefully. Republic Wireless provides me with all I need for my business for less than $24 per line on a smart phone with unlimited calls and texts and 1 gig of data per month. Extra gigs are cheap and can be bought on the spur of the moment without hassle, right from the phone. And there are even cheaper plans out there, but I don’t know anything about their coverage (like Mint and Freedom Pop). And by the way, your smart phone doesn’t have to be top of the line for this to work. There are smart phones out there that work for less than $100.
Cell phones can always go out, too, of course, so I’m thinking of looking into another backup in addition, but don’t know what that will be yet. Any suggestions are welcome.
