So I wanted to throw out a prep challenge to those folks who haven’t done it yet (those who have already tackled it should ignore my rambling).
Do you have a printed bug out route by foot or bike, to get to your bug out location?
If you plan to bug in, do you have a route to get home from the places you travel to most regularly?

For my family, we will bug in.  But we visit family in 2 other states.
With that in mind I have located bicycle stores (yes raiding is wrong, but keeping my family alive is more important than corporate profits, especially if we are talking about a situation where the rule of law will be disappearing within a few days [like an EMP]).
So, find bike stores, then plan route home, avoiding major cities and major highways.
I assume my family and I will be bugging out as soon as the poop drops, while the roads may still be full of people staying in their cars a day or two (so no using the highways unless we want to get mugged).
So I’ve used Google Maps to plan the route, based on the bicycle option.
I’ve also considered avoiding blatant roadblock areas like major bridges and typed in notes about using train trestle bridges or snow mobile bridges and the like).
Lastly, consider that there is usually a service (dirt) road that runs along the power lines, and that can be used to avoid people, though it may be more hilly.
Now print up the maps and store them with your spare tire or glove box.

Just an idea to consider.
Best,
JP
