John Park, it’s great that you’re planning ahead for a possible bug-out route! Unless your family rides bikes often, it would probably be better, though, to get bikes for them now and practice riding over your proposed route with your gear. That way you wouldn’t take the chance that the bike stores had already been cleaned-out by the time you got there, or that you could be shot as a looter. Also, I’d be a little worried about leaving an annotated map to my bug-out location in my vehicle. Maybe I’m being overly cautious but I wouldn’t want to take the chance that someone other than a family member or trusted friend might find it and use it to track me to my bug-out location. Perhaps one alternative might be to make the map but leave the last portion of the directions incomplete (and memorize that portion instead) so a stranger wouldn’t be able to follow the map all the way to your final destination?
