wow, am I so glad I found this web site and the challenge proposed!!! I have finally gotten to the review of my bug-out-bag I keep in the car always. I’m a bit ashamed to say how very long since I even looked in the bag, but thank goodness I did today!!! Clearly, there are some important items in the bag. I initially used a list developed by Daniel C. Friend called Inventory for Basic Survival Kit originally published in American Survival Guide, March 1990….oh, my. But upon reviewing the list, it’s really still quite adequate for basic emergency requirements. However, over time some of my items (batteries for example) are completely useless; all my food items have been eaten long ago; I have a water container but nothing at all to purify water with; there’s a down coat, rain poncho, but no spare boots or space blanket, etc. SO, I’m going to spend the next week replenishing this bag!!! I might also look for a more current list of what’s best for a bug out bag. I live in Tornado prone area as well as the New Madrid fault line which scientist say is way overdue for a “big” one. I’m also curious how everyone thinks about being told to “evacuate?” Would you? My neighbor says he would evacuate immediately if told to do so by authorities. I’m not so sure about that as I wouldn’t want to get caught out on a highway traffic jam, nor get funneled into a football stadium (think New Orleans). I guess it would depend on the circumstances, for example the fires in California. Hard to know….
