Missed Friday so will post twice today.  The getting home from Arizona saga continued:

So we landed at our “local” airport at around 11:00 pm last night, eight hours after we had planned (see previous post).  The baggage claim is usually super fast – usually on the carousel by the time we get there, but last night it took a while and our baggage was some of the last off the chute.  Got to the car about 45 minutes after landing and started the 1.5 “or so” hour trip to our home.  Quiet chilly and some snow on the ground.  The storm had passed through, but about 20 minutes later we caught up to it and were in a full blown snow storm, and of course the plow crews were at a minimum last night.  (Of course, it’s a holiday weekend!)  In their defense the weather guessers did not predict the amount of snow that we got.

Well, I had put the snow tires on the car the day before I left on the trip so that was good.  But it’s a little sporty hatchback and quite low to the ground.  All I know is if I got out of the tire tracks ahead of me you could hear and feel the underside of the car scraping the snow.  But the real fun was when we got away from the built up areas with lights and into the darkness of the country. It’s after midnight now and very few vehicles on the road to follow.  Then you can’t see the road because the snow is coming at you like Luke Skywalker going into hyperspace!  Amazingly, when we still had about 45 minutes left in our drive the snow turned to rain and we could actually see the road again!!  Interesting because we were heading up into the mountains.  Oh well, some interesting weather phenomena, I’m sure.

Spent a while this afternoon online looking at portable generators that might work as a backup power source for the house.  Need to check in with an installer about a transfer switch and other recommendations.
