I’m not a defender of Big Oil, but I am a realist. The profit margin for the oil companies after expenses is only about 4%. Oil exploration and extraction is not a cheap endeavor. But Big Oil is always the bad guys to the environmentalists. But consider what petroleum means to our way of life – plastics, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers. cosmetics, lubricants, fuels, and a host of other products that we each use everyday. Consider what food would cost without the availability of the petroleum based fertilizers. Currently there is no energy substitutes… not wind, not solar, not nuclear. If an alternative to petroleum could be discovered, I’m all in. But until then, I’m not agreeable to sit in the cold and dark to accommodate the radical environmentalist agenda to “save the earth” while those in control still maintain a lavish lifestyle… which they would.
