Think how much for liter of water? How much for liter of gas? Which is the bigger rip off? Which was harder to get to market?
For farming you can get to net zero carbon farm no use of petroleum to fuel or fertilize, can’t get away with lubricants. Problem is can’t do it in massive factory farms much more labour intensive. Still need oil for transportation to market.
Remember since beginning of time other than asteroids we have had the same stuff on this planet, we have spaced some but 99 percent is still here. The only difference is the chemical and in small amounts disintegrated in nuclear and lhc.
So if all is still here it is question of energy to shift bonds. Every thing has come from sun energy and carbon life cycle, there are ways to condense time loop from tens of million years to hours.
There are energy solutions, a large logging company now uses the branches and waste to power logging equipment, and log movement. You just need to look in right area to see some of the secrets.
