Glad a new Challenge has started! I hope I’ll be able to keep up my daily prepping efforts despite the upcoming holidays. Yesterday, December 1st, I drove to a nearby town to pick up the 15 yards of unbleached cotton muslin I’d ordered for 60% off during Joann Fabric’s cyber week sale. I’m going to wash it well, then cut most of it into squares suitable to use when straining homemade cheeses and yogurts, and making sourdough starters, etc.. I’m also going to cut and sew some of it into a long casing to snugly cover a narrow telescoping pole I have. Once the pole is fully extended and covered with the muslin casing, I plan to rest the ends of the pole on two chair backs and use it as an improvised rack on which to drape lots of homemade strands of pasta to dry. I saw an “Italian Grandma” do that in a YouTube video – although she used what looked like a long broom handle covered with a cloth casing.
While I was out shopping, I also picked up a big tub of Siggi’s plain Icelandic Yogurt (Skyr). I froze half of it to use as a starter culture later on and shared the rest with a friend so we could both have a yummy afternoon snack!
Later today, December 2nd, I am going to work on reorganizing some of my prepping supplies, including my Sun Oven and the various accessories and thin granite-ware pots I have to use in it. I want to try to find a place near the kitchen to store the Sun Oven so I can easily use it in the winter to, for example, insulate bread dough while it’s rising in my rather cold kitchen.
