Oh happy day….the grow light is installed and working properly!!! I put it on a timer so the light will run from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.That’s a bit over 10 hours so I’ll see how that works. Tomorrow I’m thinking to maybe thin the spinach sprouts out a bit and replant them in rows. Need to keep researching for best practices while trying to do indoor gardening. I’m definitely going to plant a couple of rows of lettuce seed and see what happens. Watching the mail box every day for seed catalog I’ve ordered from an Heirloom seed company. Talked with my handyman neighbor about building me some raised beds for next Spring. I can’t get up and down very well anymore, so I think raised beds and some vertical gardening might be just what I need. Making a cabbage and potato soup today which I plan to can tomorrow. Has the house smelling lovely. Made some cornbread muffins that freeze well. I think I’m going to focus more on canned goods rather than freezer things as in a long-term outage I might lose too many things. Reading about the possibility of an EMP has me really thinking in new ways. Someone else mentioned that as a senior citizens we may not need to be so concerned with 25 years shelf life concerns for our food. I’m thinking about where best to put my prepper efforts and dollars at my age. My next research effort is going to be about communication needs during a possible long-term electrical outage. Apparently there are some Ham radio devices that are legal for use by non-licensed Ham radio operators. Loving Life made me think about other items I might want to have ready for a quick evacuation need, outside of my BOB. Keep on posting my friends – I’m learning so much from you!
