Read articles by Doom and Bloom. Survival at sea and about how to keep food safe, esp in a survival situation where illness would be serious.
Dug RECHARGEABLE batteries out of trash and put back into the 2way radios … ran them on their charger all nite. Yes, they still work when recharged. {sheeesh…..I hope this current season of “slow brain” passes soon!} Hmph. I’m not used to making so many simple errors.
Got set for a doc appt tomorrow. Don’t think I’m gonna like what they tell me but …better to get such things handled now, when we still have modern medical care. [tho sometimes it’s pretty barbaric now too] But this didn’t go away using the more natural methods… {shrug}
OldSkiBum….sorry you got sick and couldn’t finish your roof project yet. Yeah, winter comes..
Rufus and mud and frigid temps…..at the very least, carry some plastic bread sacks as the layer between sox and boots if the spare turns up with leaks. Did that as kids. Can use same for mittens in emergency. Definitely good idea: extra sox stashed everywhere. Can use sox as mittens if gloves wet.
I accidentally slipped into the ICY pond while trying to get STOOOPID ducks to come off the water. Pond was in process of freezing and for about the fourth time in my life, I slipped into frigid water up to knees. Realllly need to stop doing that since your feet are in danger of literally freezing nearly immediately. Hyperthermia can be an issue too. Since the last time it happened [trying to rescue an injured duck off same pond..I’d walked into the pond!] I knew I had no time to lose. Stripped off the shoes/socks and rolled pants up so wet was not directly touching me. Ran over the snow to the truck and roared it up the drive to house in bare feet. Had spare sox in truck but was better to keep going and get into house – run warm water over lower legs/feet until thawed. Then full change and go back down to those dumb ducks again. The last time I was in water too long and could not feel my legs/feet up to my knees. Weird feeling…and easy to injure yourself. Didn’t wait the next time – run!
Of COURSE you still fed the cows! And I finally got all those stupid ducks off the freezing pond and into duckhouse that nite! Farmers do that, don’t we? 🙂 These past years, we don’t even let them out on the pond if it might freeze. They can just gaze unhappily at the water from their pen, but I’m not risking that stunt again. {roll eyes}
OldMtWoman ….wanting to get more reading in but…seems like no time
