I also bought the soup special by Emergency Essentials. I’ve been pleased with this company’s products and services. Spent some time this morning with handyman looking at my laundry/pantry room, trying to figure out better configuration. I have several 5 gal buckets with gamma seals there which may need a new home in tool shed. Problem is not as convenient to the kitchen. Plus I’ve ordered 4 additional 5 gal water containers…where to put them??? For my practice run of “grid down” I’m toying with the idea of leaving the natural gas operational. Electricity outages of hours and sometimes days in my area are not uncommon, usually due to severe and not so severe ice storms. But for the gas lines to go would take some pretty serious event, and in that case I probably should go to my son’s house. If I leave the gas operational during my trial, my early morning coffee is a breeze. I can boil water either on my gas grill or on the gas longs in the house. Then with a French Press, there’s my coffee!!! Cooking on the gas grill, not a problem, though it is a bit colder these days. I guess the real test will come when it gets dark. The test to myself when I don’t have my usual electricity-dependent entertainment devices during those dark evening hours. And, just exactly how am I going to keep my phone, computer, I-pad charged if I use them much during my 24 hour power outage?…I guess sit in the car, keep in running while the phone charges. Question: do I have the will power to do a trial run and disrupt my comfortable life, for 24 hours? Maybe I should ask a couple of my teenage grandchildren to play this “lights-out” game with me just so they can experience the importance of being prepared. Nah….they won’t see that as something they want to do…AT ALL! 🙂
