I’m really enjoying reading everyone’s posts and am getting lots of great prepping ideas from them!

Today I unpacked a case of Nalley’s canned chili I’d ordered online for my food storage pantry.  I like that brand better than the Hormel brand of chili that’s available in my area in brick-and-mortar stores.

I also spent some time checking out the many interesting old cookbooks (some of which also contain household tips) available for free download in pdf format from the Michigan State University library’s archive website.  For anyone who’d like to see it, here’s a link to that archive:  https://archive.lib.msu.edu/DMC/cookbooks/    One of the cookbooks I looked at there today was “Housekeeping in Old Virginia”, which was copyrighted in 1877.  Among other things, that book contains a short but interesting section on how to care for (and what to feed) the sick.  I learned that, back then, it was not considered good for patients to read anything until they had reached the convalescent stage because it would be too “great a tax on their sight and brain”.  So, I guess I should stop bringing magazines to friends in the hospital? LOL.  I also looked at the images of antique cooking implements in the University’s museum.  If anyone else would like to see those, here’s a link to the webpage that contains links to the images:  https://archive.lib.msu.edu/DMC/cookbooks/museum%20images%20for%20cookbooks/
