Well, I haven’t posted in awhile. December is just so busy! I did some volunteer work for my local humane society and I picked up a few items for next to nothing at their thrift store. I also bought some food and non perishable items for a local family that posted on social media that they were desperate for food and hygiene products and they were willing to barter their furniture and household items they had. I pulled from my stockpile and purchased some fresh items and pet food from the store. My community is struggling with very high housing costs with difficult restrictions. This family has two adult, elderly women on disability, an adult man working full time and a few small pets. They look like a normal, stable family but after rent and expenses there just isn’t much left. This is becoming a very common problem. Many older people are just going hungry and not filling their medications. But the developers keep building “luxury” housing. The economy is really only great for the folks who are already comfortable. This sweet lady just kept saying ” I never thought I would be in this position at my age”. It was very unfortunate. It made me realize how important it is to maintain a well rounded stockpile that can keep my family fed and clean during lean, uncertain times. I have decided to befriend this family and I am going to try to help them become more self sufficient, if they are willing of course.
