Today baked cake- it tastes much better from scratch. I can always taste the preservatives otherwise. Made bread and had grilled cheese sandwiches from homemade bread. I use a recipe from my breadmaker because I like to make one loaf at a time usually. I use white flour mostly with a variety of grains for the balance of it. Today I used 10 grain flour and oatmeal flour with a little ground flax seed.
It is good to have a mortar and pestle for when SHTF.
Georgene, I don’t know why your chicken’s eye is swollen, but when my dog got a huge sliver in his eye the vet said to put vitamin A in it from a capsule. It healed up nicely. Hope the other chickens don’t peck at her. I remember my Mom used to put a red light with the chick if they started pecking at blood and they used to make red chicken glasses (for real).
About toothpaste I have used baking soda or salt at times and a lady I know said that one of her relatives used fine wood ash and had nice white teeth.
One first aid ointment can be made using just balsam pitch mixed with Vaseline. It was a local family’s remedy for years.
Loving life, I used a sugar scrub last night that a friend makes. Made my face feel really good.
Lees Homestead, I had used my food processer for grating soap for laundry soap- worked very well but we may not have electricity in SHTF situation. DD said you used it for food later? Yeah. I wash it with soap and soap is soap.
