I read Alas Babylon as a kid, I still have a copy of it. Lots of good tidbits, even before prepping was a ‘thing’. Cold War era but still applicaple today. I used to be a big Stephen King fan, and think The Stand was one of his best works. Not for everyone, but still some useful info.
I have found lately that Young Adult Fiction books are often very good resources for preparedness, believe it or not. That in and of itself gives one pause.
