The past couple of days I have been spending time with Child#6 that came home from college. We’ve only eaten leftovers as I flat refuse to make more food when there’s a least a week’s worth awaiting to be eaten. Hubby agreed.
I decided to reuse some old glass spice jars to deal with taking my medicines more easily. I have a huge gallon jar of Fire Thieves Cider (to which I added a pint of cinnamon/clove cider today) and it is simply a pain to open and get out a Tbsp at a time. So I put it in a small pour bottle. It’ll be several days worth and much easier to deal with. Same for the usnea tincture and elderberry syrup.
Used the cinnamon sticks and clove buds from the cider as a simmering potpourri. After they’re boiled out, I’ll throw them out in the compost area for that type of thing.
I made a decoction of mullein leaf to use in the nebulizer to help fight off the last of this pneumonia that’s taking sooooooo long to go away. I used it last evening and hoo boy do I feel sooo much better this morning. Gonna keep doing that until it’s all gone.
Needed to water the plants in the green house. I only used water from the hose one time and that was when we originally put the plants in there mid-fall. The rest of the time I’ve been using rain water. Either from the bucket I have sitting outside the green house or usually from just dipping a small can in the puddles outside. Since we are hooked up to the county water, it saves on the water bill. I’m contemplating putting gutters on sides of the greenhouse to run into a 55-gallon drum to use for watering plants – the barn catchment is for animals. Though currently, it is not needed for the plants, we will likely need it come summer.
I’ve also spent some time printing out family photos. Once they are in the frame behind glass, I can’t tell they aren’t on photo paper or anything. That’s a big money saver right there! I inherited a bookoo of frames from my mom and would love to use them all but I didn’t want to spend that much money on getting photos printed out (nor spend the time putting them on a thumbdrive and driving somewhere and dealing with people and technology). So, now I have a way to do it at home for pennies and don’t have to deal with people or driving or spend much time on it.
Have enjoyed seeing recipes for the things like ketchup, soda crackers, and fabric softener. I’ll be employing them as soon as said items are used up around here! Love seeing the ideas everyone has.
