For Christmas my wife gifted me a large hard-covered cook book titled “The Food Lab”. Interesting book in that it explains how best to cook various foods and why, including chemical reactions and the physics involved..
So this morning I tried my hand making a breakfast of eggs Benedict with homemade hollandaise sauce out of the book along with fried potato cakes using left-over mashed potatoes from last night’s meal.
Well, it was edible. Actually it was quite good. The presentation was lacking, but what the hey. First time. Crafting hollandaise sauce for me was…. an experience. Chefs and restaurants need not worry! Poaching eggs wasn’t the easiest thing I’ver ever done in the kitchen, either. But, my wife was kind enough to not comment on some of the screw-ups. That was my “Make it from Scratch” adventure for today.
