The Portal to Hell hall closet: The shelf supports are out! The building super is a strapping young man and he went to town with a hammer, chisel and crowbar and got them out in 15 minutes. Now I feel so old and decrepit… It was a terribly noisy process and I would not blame my next-door neighbor if he came pounding  on my door to complain, or called our management company tomorrow. It turns out that the shelf supports were nailed in with many dozens of 2 inch and 3 inch nails, but the former (deranged) owner had plastered over the nail heads so that’s why it was unclear how they were attached. One shelf support was actually just a piece of scrap metal wedged in tightly, and the super whacked it with a hammer about 10 times till it fell down. Tomorrow i will take the wood supports to basement and flatten the nails with a hammer so no one gets hurt when I dispose of them. The holes left in the walls are not bad except for two. The super recommended I fix them with joint compound. So, the tasks for this week are to fix the holes in the walls with joint compound and fill in the cracks in the door frame with wood filler. I also want to order some flat plastic boxes to neatly store all the materials that I did keep.

@oldmtwoman what you posted about how people survived the solar minimum (you posted it under the Dec. 31-Jan. 6 Check-In thread) was very interesting to read, thank you! I think that would merit a thread to itself, survival during a solar minimum.
