Hieronyma Textor – You may already know about this product but if not, it might be something you’d want to consider for washing your daughter’s hair while she’s still unable to shower or bathe.  It’s called “No Rinse” Shampoo, and it comes in either a liquid form in a bottle or in a more gel-type form inside what’s basically a loose shower cap.  I used to use it to shampoo my elderly parents’ hair when they were bedridden.  I feel it  works well.  To use the No Rinse Shampoo Cap, I would prop them up in a more or less seated position in bed, place a towel around their shoulders, put the Shampoo Cap on their head and gently massage the No Rinse Shampoo inside it throughout their hair and into their scalp.  After that all I had to do was remove and discard the Shampoo Cap and towel dry their hair (or blow it dry if that was what they wanted).  My Mother, in particular, enjoyed having her hair shampooed that way.  Although my dear parents have since passed on, I still keep some No Rinse Shampoo Caps (and commercially packaged No Rinse bath-sized Wipes) on hand all the time in my preparedness supplies for my own use if I should ever need them in an emergency situation.  As I recall, at least as of a few years ago, they were available at WalMart and at some local drug stores (and online too, of course).

Yesterday I stayed home because more snow was predicted.  It never arrived so, as it turned out, I could have spread my monthly errands over three days instead of rushing madly to get them accomplished in two ,<sigh>.  Instead of going out, I unpacked the groceries and long-term pantry items I’d purchased and then spent time catching up on my email correspondence and reading some articles about sourdough starters and what to bake with your immature sourdough starter “discards”.

Today, I started adding this month’s grocery purchases to the pantry inventory list on my computer.  I also spoke by phone with a friend who lives in on an island near Seattle, Washington.  She can’t reach the mainland unless the ferry’s running so she wants to have plenty of supplies on hand “just in case.”  One thing she’s particularly worried about is having enough potable water, so we discussed various methods of storing and purifying water.  I was hoping to drive to a friend’s house in a nearby state tonight to watch the lunar eclipse through his excellent telescope but, given the dangerously low temperatures, we decided that it wouldn’t be a good idea to be standing around outside in the cold wind.  So, my plan now is to watch the eclipse on SLOOH dot com and, maybe, if I’m feeling particularly brave, poke my head outside for just a minute or two when the eclipse reaches its maximum point so I can catch a glimpse of the “red moon” with my own eyes, lol.
