Here’s another way of looking at the original questions.
Can you survive anything short of a global cataclysm for three days? (Global includes EMP)
Do you have everything that you need for those days, in a hotel? Or a contaminated water supply ? Or the roads are closed and no food is coming? Job loss?
If you can survive three days without needing anything, how about three weeks?
Depending upon the situation, I may have evacuated and am watching the snow fall from Florida. Or because of rioting in Tampa my friends decide to come here on vacation.
Most situations are localized and/or temporary. Start there.
