Last week I made potato soup with some leeks a friend gave us, garlic (last of the fresh), coconut milk, marjoram, dill, salt & some water. it was pretty good, so this week I made it again with the potatoes that needed to be used up, onion instead of leeks and dried garlic instead of fresh. Unfortunately I put a little too much water (or not quite as many potatoes). It’s good but not quit yummmmm. I sort of made it. I have a hard time using a knife or anything that requires 2 hands right now so maybe we’ll say I thought of it and DH did most of the work.
Most of my month has been recuperating from my ice excursion. But I’ve thought of several things.
Like a couple of others on here I have A LOT of cookbooks. Because almost everything is in storage right now due to a transition, I can’t access some of my favorite (but not memorized) recipes — so when I get my books back, I’m going to copy anything I really like (especially those once a year special recipes) and put them in a 3 ring binder.
Another thing I thought of (& still working on) is taking all of DH’s holy socks (he absolutely hates to throw them out because he “can still use them”) and cut them into rags. nice terry cloth type on one side for the foot part. think i’ll leave the ankle ribbed part intact and see what I can come up with for them. MAYBE he’ll go for it because we are really trying to quit using paper towels. We don’t use them often but I would be glad to save them for power outages or real disasters. We got into the habit while my mom lived with us because she insisted on using them for everything. This is obviously a delicate topic so I have to plan my strategy well.
I used to make my own laundry detergent and always added vinegar to the rinse water because otherwise things get yucky after a while. That was another thing that went away while Mom was here because she only wanted her special type detergent. So when the surgeon releases me in a couple of months I’m starting back on that and using the fabric softener recipe I got from this challenge.
So thanks for the encouragement. Looking forward to the next challenge and more dexterity to participate.
Stay warm
