Inspiring to hear what you all are doing!!!

Today the hay truck arrived at 10am.  The guys stacked bales right near the gate while DH and I began two hours of sledding one bale at a time over to the hay shed.  I’d told the truck guys to leave themselves space to back out and leave…cuz it would take us a while.  They saw the wisdom of that.  😉  It actually went very well….cuz we have packed snow the whole route.  If we do this when it’s dry dirt, it wears me out very quickly.  With nearly zero resistance snow, I kept checking behind to see if the bale had rolled off the sled.  🙂  Poor DH still isn’t feeling well.  He wore a surgical mask to keep the hay dust out of his plagued respiratory track…and it did help.  But he had to keep taking rest breaks in the shed.  The WIND was blowing strong thru our valley…but I was too warm and welcomed the ventilation.  [Old ladies, y’know]  He’s the one who had to carry the bales up to stack…tho we only had to go about 4 or 5 high.  The shed is taller than it is big…to keep within the maximum before you need a county permit to build it.  But…we have hay til spring grass, hopefully.  It’s a good place for grass along the creek.  Real benefit of this location….despite a lot of drawbacks.  [this hay business was a LOT easier 20 yrs ago!!! Hmph!

Thanks to Daisy for sharing her method of keeping rice bags warm.  Finally  I’m able to use my bag of old rice as a warmer/non-electric heating pad.  NICE!  I’ve had some old [uncooked] rice wrapped in the center of a ‘flour sack’ towel.  Closed it up with a rubber band.  But not having a microwave, I never figured how to heat it.  Oven took a long time.  I’d found it recently while decluttering and then read that Daisy puts theirs in a crock near their fireplace [or wood stove?]  Well duh!  I have a pellet stove and it does not get hot on the sides.  Only the front and top.  So instead of a decorative brass teapot on top, I now have a small SS bowl and plunked the rice bag in there….with a trivet under it.  PERFECT!  Very pleased.  Not too hot but stays warm a long time.  \0/
