Today was about energy management, mostly my wood stove. My Vermont Castings Defiant is a beast, I love it.
In another area of this forum, we were discussing woodstove, etc. It got me thinking.
Not much to go wrong on my wood stove, but I did order a few small things for my stove, mainly some adhesives. I also once again have plenty of cast iron for cooking on the wood stove.
Assessing the chimney, I have an uber efficient double 8 inch pipe, etc. If needed, I have all the tools for cleaning. As I burn seasoned hardwoods, the wood stove needs little cleaning. I do get it cleaned and serviced annually.
The biggest thing is managing my wood supply. My acreage supplies much more than I burn. I burn about 2 full cords a year. The biggest thing is deciding how many years of cut wood to have stacked. I am currently storing about 2-3 years supply with about another 2 years worth of felled trees that haven’t been chopped up. How much wood do others store?
