Hi all, not sure what happened to my post but I’m going to try this again. I had to work today so most of my prepping was of the of the research variety. I did some research on rain harvesting in my area. No ordinances against it here (hooray!) so that won’t be an issue. I have been comparing prices in case I’m unable to source a barrel locally for cheap. I spent some time with the seed catalog to place an order for spring planting.
Supper tonight I tried out some freeze dried beef. I want to make some jar meals but needed to be sure it was something the family would actually eat. Got mostly thumbs up so I’ll definitely be making those.
Muffy1938 I usually use an o2 absorber when I’m sealing up jars with freeze dried meat or dairy. It mostly depends on what you’re storing and how long you want it to last. I’ve been using the Foodsaver attachment on my jars for many years and can tell you that seals don’t always hold long term. The absorbers give some added protection. I always use them for things I know I won’t use in 6 months or less. Putting a paper coffee filter over powdery ingredients will keep the Foodsaver from getting clogged. (ask me how I learned that one)
