Hieronyma Textor – I shop at an Amish-owned “Bent n’ Dent”/salvage grocery store once each month and get great deals on canned goods, cereals, rice mixes, pasta, salad dressings, condiments, baking mixes, candies, crackers, snacks, soft drinks, frozen foods, some produce, some breads and rolls, cleaning supplies, pet food, paper and plastic goods, toiletries, medical supplies, vitamins, etc. The prices on those types of items are typically 50% to 75% lower that what you’d pay at a “regular” grocery store – really!. Plus, you can often find unusual or gourmet foods there – it’s not all just boring, bland food. Here’s one example: I found pouches of Tasty Bite Indian vegetarian dishes there last month for 75 cents each that normally sell for $3 each! Since I love that company’s foods (which are retort packaged and microwaveable), I bought lots of them at that great 75% off price! The “Bent n’ Dent”/salvage store I go to also sells excellent local dairy products but those are sold at closer to “normal” prices since there is a lot of turn-over on those types of foods so the store doesn’t need to mark them down much to sell them. I also often find tremendous bargains on pantry items there that I add to my mid and long-term food storage (such as rice, various types of dry beans and legumes, spices, pastas, extracts, oils, canned and dried fruits, canned vegetables, canned soups, etc.). It’s an adventure shopping there because the inventory is a bit different each time you go.
