So, it looks like I haven’t been on here for ten days! Wow!
I have been dealing with muddy chicken runs, frozen water, slick walkways and a shortage of straw. I gave up and put a heat lamp in the chicken coop and wouldn’t ya know it, the weather warms back up above freezing. I had to buy pine chips for the runs and the walkways, because hay and straw is horribly expensive this winter and I ‘ve run out of what I had. I will be storing a ton more this summer!
I have had to replace the fence between me and the neighbors, I was feeding their chickens, as they were coming through the fence and had learned what time I got home from work and gave mine scratch!
Work has been brutal! A co-worker at another location has been not showing up for work and my supervisor has been calling me to do her work, as we are fairly rural and I am the only other employee for the company, in this area. I hope they hire someone else, as this is supposed to be part-time, and it hasn’t been.
We finally put a regular attic trap door in. before, it was just a trap door and you had to use a ladder. I’m getting a little too creaky for that now. We also gutted the one chicken coop, as we had butchered the hens and relocated the rooster. It has been re-purposed as a wood/tool shed. We won’t be raising as many chickens now that I have gone back to work.
The old wood truck has been dis-assembled and what wasn’t useful was hauled in for scrap. The bed portion has been turned into a trailer for hauling logs, hay and such. The new wood truck is another beater, but less abuse and mileage, so hopefully will last a few years. We are hard on the wood trucks, as they are constantly in the woods and trees don’t move for you.
Mostly food prepping going on when I’m home. I’ve ordered my half hog and quarter beef from my uncle. He butchers every quarter.
Well, I’m sure it will be, at least, a few days before I post again, but I will try. Internet is spotty during the winter months.
