Hi everyone!
It’s been a while since I last posted. I have been uber busy taking an online course on essential oils; it’s a daily course for the entire month of February. I am also doing daily study in herbal medicine.
I have been enjoying the winter weather here in Up State NY. It been super cold! If the SHTF, I want to be able to get around in winter, so I have been snow shoeing and skiing. I have also been doing more cooking on the woodstove.
I have been reading the posts. I need my daily dose of what has @oldmtwoman done now:). Of course, she found another use for wood ash! Lol.
@littlesister. I too struggle with how much is enough. Various scenarios might include a bug out from your location. A slow collapse might be stay in place. I look at the skills I am acquiring as self-sufficiency. I look at various items I purchased as a form if insurance. I hope to never need that insurance, but if I need it I am going to be so glad I have it.
As an example, I purchase flood insurance. When Sandy hit, I was the only one on my street that had flood insurance. We all had losses ranging $30k-50k! My loss was covered.
I plan a budget line for prep supplies, just like insurance. For me, I just view it as another form of insurance. Some of that is for long term supplies (food buckets 20 year, seeds, etc), more items in my pantry that I rotate, annual garden (plus long term seeds for storage), etc.
@littlesister. You must decide what makes you comfortable. I also have a family member that I know will show up at my door with her kids. I can turn back lot of people away, but I can’t deny those nephews. Hence, I stockpile more for them.
I would appreciate knowing how much others stockpile and their mindset behind their stockpiles.
