Got the new air conditioner in today. Best part is that it is paid for outright. So no bills. But now I need to make appt. for the car as it needs oil change and has another recall. I think this is the third or forth one and hope it is the last.
Loving life. You are right about a struggle of how much is enough. The long term food we have if just for hubby and myself would last a good 3 years if not more. This includes long term seed banks as well. We got 3 of them on that going out of business sale. That sale seems to have turned into a moving sale for them to another state and they could not take the amount of long term food with them without a huge cost. So they sold it off and we made out on it since we knew what the cost was already. Most if it was a good 75 to 85 percent off. Hubby had a field day on that. We will be feeding our family but I told them my house will not hold the amount of food for another 6 people and they need to start storing food as well. But my daughter does not want to store food at her house. Go figure. She will throw anything away that is in her way. She has become a clean freak and wants as little as possible in her house. Her house is much bigger than mine but she thinks mine will hold it all. So I am comfortable with what I have and am going to reduce the amount of food and use a lot of it up. I will leave the long term food for just that. Long term. We do have a garden and I can, so just going to be doing that. The freezers all need to be emptied. So am using up what is in them before even thinking about adding to them. Some of what is in there I will dehydrate within the next week. I have enough baking items to bake bread and rolls for a year without having to go to a store. So time to get this used up. As for my daughter, next time she comes over she will be having a moment of where is all the food. And I will tell her, my house won’t hold it all either. So we ate it. Maybe that will put a bit of fear into her. But even with that food wise I am good.
My concern now is on non food items. Grid down, (EMP), So some solar panels and batteries for them is on the list of things I need. I do have enough solar panels to charge some things but it is not set up yet. I already have a solar cooker and a few ways to cook on open fire pit and such. I also have a non electric grain grinder. So good there as well. As for sanitation we are also good. So I am basic about as ready as can be on a lot of things. But need more skills. Skills are the hardest as my hand is limited to doing some things. But garden and canning I have been doing for years. I am learning how to make my own soaps. I already am making my own laundry detergent. I want to start into candle making as well.
Grannyj Smith. Good luck on your shelving. Wish I had a pantry. That is why I have taken over the bedroom closets and one linen closet in hall for a pantry. I would love to have a root cellar also but no way to have one here. I keep telling myself one day. But that remains to be seen.
