I’ve never been much of a cook but I can make salmon patties as my Mother did during the War; that is soda crackers, one egg, canned salmon mixed together with black pepper and a dash of salt – fried until crispy and golden brown on each side….yum….seems like Mother served them with mashed sweet potatoes, soup beans and cole slaw…I was a little girl during WWII but I remember ration cards very well. Perhaps we might do well to look into how women coped when food rations were tight.
