Too late @whirlibird with the way they are spending the economic collapse is gonna happen anyways. Look at oil price the wild up and down of stock markets. Even if reopen tomorrow 50 percent of small businesses are done most of the food and entertainment business will collapse as no one would have money to do so the debt they have incurred will not allow that most people near or retirement have to reshuffle finances.
So if no or limited customers you will have to layoff or fire employees which makes less customers and the cycle repeats. Problem s human nature when you lose it all and some will say fuck it and go full crazy…. and well that will start shft or teowawki if enough people.at once hit the crazy limit

@namelus, hard to say.
People around here have been pretty industrious.
The movie theater, after a 1.3mil rebuild a couple of years ago has been putting on a “drive in”, with space for 65 cars a night. And people are selling it out, two shows every Friday and Saturday. And calling in orders for the snack bar to take home.
The private gyms, are renting out equipment.
One local business made and donated 11,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to the community, giving them away from various places in town. And still paying their employees.
If everyone keeps it “local”, the country will probably come out of this for the better.
As for the riots and violence, wrong area. NYC and Chicago may burn but it won’t effect us much.

@whirlibird why local iniatives can help it’s the federal / state debt and spending that will cause the collapse.
4 main incomes for USA are destoyed. OIL, weapon sales, food exports and software. Those need a stable dollar to work…. 6 trillion and going in debt for 30 days and possible 1.5 years of social distancing….. no way it will stop at 6 trillion the debt is crushing so that every dollar in tax will go to service interest only.
Does not matter locally doing OK if country currency hyper inflates better have barter items or you will get nothing for electronic or paper dollars. If you think Zimbabwe can’t happen here you are In for a rude awakening it was happening before covid19 when dollar loses reserve status USA will suffer greatly.

@namelus, I have been warning about Zim for years, and on several different forums, if you recall.
Locally we can keep going. Just like the ’20’s-’40’s.
The global economy? Hard to say. The bonus at that point is that we are all in it together.
