  The first time? That’s odd considering highways were built with this in mind. Ours used to even be marked with large circles to assist in landings.
  Also why utilize an aircraft they seem hellbent on shelving?
  And of course the obvious question of why testing it now? What’s going on?

  The F-35 was supposed to solve/replace the A-10 and a number of other airframes.
  Yeah, not so much.
  
  My wife just wrote a technical paper about the Air Force procurement cycle.
  
  As for them doing this training here in the US . . . interesting.
