KeymasterThe month of NOV and DEC have not been too good for me.
In NOV, broke my toe. What could I have done? Gone to the hospital, they x-ray it, “Yep, you broke your toe. Here is a Rx for Ibuprofen, one of those velcro boots, try to stay off it. That will be $3k. BTW, your deductible is $3,500.”
Rather, what I did do was during the day, put on my hiking boots, and lace up the one with the broke toe a little more snug than usual.
It healed.Last night while making dinner, I zigged when I should of zagged with the 8inch chef’s knife. Take a look at your index finger on your left hand. Now imagine cutting off the right quarter to include the nail clean off. Yep, that is what I did. It was at an angle, so all nail and meat, did not get down to the bone.
Go to the ER, what are they going to do? Reattach it? Nope. Likely liquid bandage, maybe a tentus shot, and a Rx for Ibuprofen. “That will be $3k.”
Hey, after the $500, I met my deductible! And my rates go up next year.
What I did do, apply pressure, kept my hand above my heart, till the bleeding stopped. Then, apply a topical antibiotic to a bandage and wrapped it. Then I finished making and eating dinner (wife made a salad with home made ranch, I made home made croutons and pasta carbonara with my bacon) I will change the bandage twice a day till healed.BUT! In the mean time, livestock still need watered and fed. Wood needs brought in and stacked.
Even with the toe, the pain was about a 8 or 9 on a scale of 1-10. After 3 days the pain went down to about a dull 3-4, then I was fine.
The finger felt like a 9 at the time of the cutting, but now, unless I bump it, is a 1. Does make typing interesting though. -

ParticipantI got a mandoline slicer for Christmas; which is headed for the thrift store. The last time I used one, I sliced my thumb. And yes a trip to the ER, and a few stitches.
Reminds me, I should order some Xeroform Sterile Non-Adherent Petrolatum Dressing. This is what was used when the tip of my index finger got bitten off by a pit bull.

Post SHTF our medic will be a busy man. You get hurt by doing things and a lot of things are required to survive.
I’m not one to run to the Dr but things require it occasionally.
First thing I reckon is not to stand to close to y’all 😂
