Take note of what people are complaining about, or do without when the power is out for a few days.

    Ahem, you were warned.

The fact that you did nothing to prepare yourselves for the situation, well who is to blame for that?

I look at this as a multiple part problem. First the utilities aren’t allowed to cut the trees/branches away enough so there isn’t a threat. So until that is fixed alone, this situation will continue.

Second, you have days to weeks of warning, you didn’t get a generator and fuel when you had the chance? Especially if your life or livelihood depend on power…..

Really want to be sympathetic, not gonna happen.

    Right WB!
Many people affected are not in a high chance zone . . . but the transmission lines are!
Funny thing is, how many people declare themselves to care about climate change, the environment . . . until the power goes out. Then they run out and buy generators instead of going without their computers (to watch movies as it was noted in the article).
The loss of perishable foods, that would be bad.
But what did we do in hurricane areas and the power went out? Thaw out the meats, get out the grill and have a big block party/cookout. It was gonna go bad anyways.

“… get out the grill … ” But why? You have a fire on your doorstep? (sorry, I just had to)

But yeah, watching an hour or so of what is “cooking” there – sorry, slipped out again, bloody kbd typo – there is a few prepared ones and then there is the rest.

Personally I do not see a solution to Cali’s problems. Hotter and dryer every year with no end in sight. Power companies lines/people causing fires with no easy solution to the power line problems.

The good news is that wherever there has been a fire, decades of the accumulated kindle has now been burnt, but there is still a lot of areas that have not seen a fire in years, just waiting their turn.

Why people build homes with wood right next to an open veldt with us used to concrete, cement, bricks with metal roof sheets, is quite interesting.

@TTT, well, from what I have read, the solution that no one wants to talk about is to do the upgrades hire the manpower to do what needs to be done, raise electricity rates. And not by just a little bit.
And clear the brush in a common sense (controlled burns when they can) manner along the transmission line lanes.

But based off what I am reading, nope! Just blame the utility. Granted they are likely for a large degree of blame. But they need a fix.

Another problem they have is when they do get rains, or the snow pack melts in the mountains, they get a desert bloom, where grasses and wild flowers explode in growth. IIRC, last year was one of the biggest blooms ever recorded. Then those grasses and wild flowers dry out and become fuel for fires.
I heard a interview with a CAL Fire Chief a few years ago when the drought was still on-going. He stated since records have been kept, starting in 2010, the fire seasons have been starting sooner, and lasting longer.

Adding to the points you read, read the same, there is also a titbit I read that Cali was really suited for mass occupation due to various reasons. One being that originally not even the indigenous populations wanted to live there in large numbers due to it not being ideally suited for such endeavors.

So California is a forced situation, kept going with great effort, humans overriding natural course of things.

Also, read that the saga about the electricity prices goes back quite a bit when they were forced down some time back. That has now come back to bite each and everyone living all over California, it seems to me.

You cannot now up the price of electricity, should have not been tampered with, which should have resulted in proper maintenance and care being taken as they could then afford it today.

As they say: You get what you paid for. 🙂
