ParticipantPicking up in the July thread, I now know why Crowbar had so much salt. The question is where does one buy huge bags of salt? I do have emergency bags of winter salt. 😂
As for a full freezer. I do understand. If my chest freezer isn’t almost full I start to get worried. I will work through a lot of that food before hunting season. I do love my venison.
I finished my inventory. I even did some additional organizing. I picked up some sale meds, mainly bandages and cold meds. The only items I really need now are antibiotics.

KeymasterLoving Life,
The wife found this site and we have been getting bulk items from them, to include salt.

ParticipantSo the ac went out this past weekend; and no it was not fun. System is only 3 years old. It was the capacitor. Part was under warranty, Labor not.
Checking off my seed and plants list. Have to use multiple vendors cause not everyone carries everything for this climate.

KeymasterAnddddd I am back!
Had family in town for part of the week. Upside, the temps dropped from the upper 80s to upper 70s.
One night, we even got down into the upper 40s. -

ParticipantHello everyone. Sorry I haven’t been around much. Been helping an elderly relative out & they don’t have internet access. Was only able to run home for short periods of time. Fortunately, he enjoyed having my dog & the chickens to visit. LOL Only had an issue with 1 neighbor that kept complaining about the roosters crowing. Since I only have hens, that left me a bit confused. This dude really thought that the hens cackling after laying an egg was a crowing rooster. I showed him the girls, answered questions, even offered to share some eggs. Said he’d need to see the vet certificate for each chicken before he could accept the eggs. I was really tempted to show him the cow eggs from the humor forum but was afraid he might take me seriously.

ParticipantCrow Bar, thanks for the link on the salt. There’s a restaurant supply store about 35 miles from me. Think I’ll check it out when I’m over there for my Dr’s appointment next week.
Corsaire, I agree with you on the seeds & plants. Are you still undergoing PT? I was hoping to get some of the tree collards earlier this year, but just missed out on getting the plants. Maybe next year.
Loving Life, have you considered herbal antibiotics? I have a book by Stephen Harrod Buhner; also 1 on antivirals.

ParticipantPT ended, well I ended it. Had a different therapist. He asked what was hurting, said my shoulder. He worked on it, got through the session ok. But the next day I was hurting. Went back again and a new girl was there. Short story was I couldnt get through any of the exercises, and was worse then when I first came in. Cancelled the last appt, and am never going to return. I am better now though.
The Okinawa spinach which I got as bare root plants are doing well. I got some new growth. They are in part shade. Longevity spinach plants (small) are also doing well. Put them out in full sun today, we’ll see how that works. Everglades tomato was sown in flats. Apparently they can be temperamental and take long to germinate.
This rainy season has been dry and we are finally getting some rain this week. Tropics are quiet which is nice. Temps well day time highs upper 80s and low 90s. Nighttime upper 70s to 80.

ParticipantGlad to hear you’re better. I had hoped to get some of the Okinawa spinach when I got a notice it was back in stock, but they were already out of stock again when I went into the website. Did you get your spinach plants from Baker Creek? I may order some of the Longevity spinach. Also want to try some of the Asian sweet potatoes.
We’ve had some rain the past couple weeks. Dry from weekend through today. Supposed to start raining again tomorrow. Similar day time highs here. Cold front this past weekend had us in high 60s. Back in low to mid 70s again now.

ParticipantThe longevity came from Baker Creek. Plants arrived in perfect condition. The Okinawa came from a Florida nursery selling on Etsy. ( since out of stock sadly); though there are other sellers. Seeds came from Marys Heirloom seeds mostly as well as some Etsy sellers.

ParticipantWe’ve had quite a few rain showers and a couple storms in the past couple weeks but June was parched. The upside is that a whole generation of mosquitos wrinkled up and blew away when their water holes dried up. We’ve got almost no mosquitos since.

KeymasterThis year, it has been just right.
A few nice, sunny days, then rain.
This weekend was the perfect example. Saturday was nice. Then later it rained.
Sunday, 30% chance of showers: It rained almost all day long! I got the dogs out for their morning walk. Just as I was getting back home, I could see the rain clouds coming in, and thunder in the distance. It went from a light drizzle, to a down pour that lasted nearly 5 minutes. It got so dark, we had to turn lights on in the house. NOAA says about a quarter of an inch, but that weather station is a good 20-30miles away. I think we got closer to an inch, maybe more!
Forecast has 80% of showers for today. Going to try to walk the dogs, swing by the book to see how high it is.

ParticipantNice. Its a sauna here by 10am.
Got the Survival Medicine handbook, by Joe and Amy Alton. It covers everything- 600 plus pages of really good info. I am getting a list together of supplies that I missed.
I plan to start my own “eat whats grows here” challenge. The premise is to eat only things which grows or can be raised here. Still need to do some more research though.
