ParticipantHello,
Does anyone have any recommendations of books detailing how people coped in & adapted to societal upheavals & collapses in recent times (& the kind of unpleasant surprises encountered, what this brought out in desperate people etc)? Places like Yugoslavia, USSR, Argentina(?)/Venezuela are examples that come to mind, I suppose parts of Africa would be relevant too (above & below the Sahara). Some recommendations of books detailing how people carry on in continual states of destitution & proto-gulagisation would be appreciated too.
Thanks

ParticipantThanks Matt this looks just the thing, think I may have heard of this some time ago but it didn’t come to mind.
Does anyone know if there’s a hardcopy compendium of Serco’s works or anywhere still selling physical book copies of his published works (besides ebay etc)?
Another book of potential interest:
I Read The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse
Review of Fernando Aguirre’s collapse survival guide.

Ferfal has some interesting things to say. I disagree with his approach to a few things especially in the tactical realm greatly. Selco and I also don’t always agree either.
Part of it depends on your location and ability to have what I have. Neither of them had the 2A nor the ability to have things like night vision, armor etc at the start of the collapse.
They do offer great insight and a prospective most will never see. I served in the Balkans before the main force moved in. It definitely opened my eyes.I don’t know if a book but the other place worth paying attention to is South Africa

KeymasterI have in the past read books on things like the German occupation of France during WWII, or the failed uprising of the Poles in Warsaw Poland in 1944.

ParticipantYes, these will all be good areas to research, Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipeligo (& Holodomor?) too.
Some other books about life in prison – the worst prisons & for lengthy/life stays – would also provide a great insight into how to survive when the S really HTF.
Anyone know of any books like this?
