BUG OUT BOATS
Water provides a foundation for transportation, ‘social distance’, shelter and livelihood. A Bug Out Boat provides access to the water. They can range in scale from a packraft to an offshore sailboat.
While it’s true that a set of skills must be acquired for success on the water, they’re no more complicated than those required for bug out by land.
Sail and sweeps (single or double oars) afford the potential for unlimited range.
I’m just sayin’.

I agree. For us we are surrounded by water on 3 sides. So a boat is a must. We don’t have one anylonger but daughter and son in law does as well as kayaaks. Not so sure how DH would do on one now. He use to go deep sea fishing a long time ago but it got to be to much for him after his stroke and then heart attack later. He has no balance so hard for him to climb into a boat now.

With a bug-out boat, keep in mind that pirates would be catching on too.

I considered the idea at one time. So much as to get my bareboat sailing certification.
The one problem I saw was the up keep on fiberglass boats. They needed annual scraping, painting.
Aluminum hulls seemed the way to go.
Finding them is the problem. -

Any saltwater ship needs too much maintance and specialty equipment (de salenators) sails, rope ect that wear with time. Short term escape … awesome if you have place to go if not…. and if you don’t have passers set up and forgein banking you are screwed and that is not easy or cheap to get.
