ModeratorSo I listened to an interview with the energy secretary and she stated that the next 5-10 yrs the administration wants the oil industry to max out production no matter what it takes and then the administration will shut them down. What they hope is that while the oil producers spend billions to do so that they will also diversify into other energy sources.
Even the CNN reporter was having trouble with her statement as absolutely insane. He questioned it and was not convinced as any sane person would be.The other thing was the way she said it like she was ordering them to do so. Like she believes she has power. “The king has spoken”
The politicians have zero grasp of reality right now.

ParticipantOn the other side of the coin ……………….people dont seem to be exercising any self restraint . They are still driving around , burning gas , burning up the road , with unnecessary travel . Like the pandemic , and depression is not around the corner . High prices , should be a clue to stay close to home , and stop jetting around , like everything is A OK . Judging by the number of out of state plates , you would think everything is peachy . Will it take $7.00 per gallon , for people to start , at least thinking about staying out of their car ? We have the power to make things worse for ourselves that way , and it looks like we are willing to keep it up , until we are forced to entertain ourselves a bit closer to home , or learn how to entertain ourselves , without leaving the house . Kind of like how people did , back when not every man , woman , and child , had a car .Kind of sucks , but we are going to have to start relearning some things as this goes on .

ModeratorMmmm I dunno. Everyone I know has canceled trips. We did because by the end of July fuel is supposed to be $6 in Oklahoma and higher other places. It was going to take $1200 just in fuel to go to Tennessee and back and that was using cheap fuel. Normally I like to use premium when I pull anything over 6K. I could have gone but had to do substantially less. I ain’t driving somewhere just to sit in my camper when I can go to the local lake.
I do agree that they still aren’t seeing the big picture though.
They still believe this is short term. Everyone who believes in politicians thinks President Trump will be back and throw a light switch and it’ll all be better again. What will it take for the light to turn on? Man I really don’t know. Denial or the belief that it’ll be ok always is a big part of American culture.

KeymasterOn one hand, Tolik is correct, we are not seeing the demand destruction one would think be occurring in this fuel inflationary environment.
Flip side, I know of ourselves and others whom are making decisions based on fuel prices. When we go to town, we make sure to maximize the trip. Last night, we did decide to meet up with a friend at a restaurant for dinner. However, we were also planning on going to Wally-World for a cheap supply run (travel sized items for trade, bulk coffee, Brita water filters).

ModeratorYou know you are in a tourist area whereas I’m not. So you are seeing a much higher traffic rate than me.
Our hotels are more full of oilfield and stopover vacationers than actual tourist.
I see a ton of Kalifornia plates on the main highways

KeymasterThe Netherlands have removed their coal restrictions following Germany.
So much for the green revolution when it comes to keeping the lights on and the heat on.
